Artist Statement: The Art of pottery gets its strength from its traditional elements and techniques. The foundation of the craft is in the skillful manipulation of clay to create forms that are not only functional, but also aesthetically satisfying without being derivative. My work is made to be used and the power of the functional pottery gains its strength and beauty from utility. As a maker, I hope that the pieces I make communicate something of what I feel regarding personal expression in clay.
Mike has won multiple awards for his ceramics. He currently has a piece displayed at The University of Tulsa - College of Engineering.
